| Ministry warns on illegal dumping of e-waste in Nigeria
The Federal Ministry of Health has set up modalities for liaison with other relevant agencies of government to prevent future importation of electronic waste into the country.
The declaration was made in Abuja on Wednesday by Niyi Ojuolape, Special Assistant to Babatunde Osotimehin, the Minister of Health.
``We advise Nigerians that the burning of electronic appliance for the purpose of retrieving useful items from them is dangerous to health.
``The fumes emanating from the burning of electronics contain toxic chemicals that are harmful and could compromise the health of anyone that inhales it,'' he warned.
The ministry also warned that salvaging metals from unwanted electronic equipment being dumped in the country posed a great health risk.
Ojuolape was reacting to a ``Skynews�� Television report on illegal dumping of e-waste in Nigeria.
