He is fighting to clear his name despite being diagnosed with incurable advanced prostate cancer. A key item sought by his defence team is understood to relate to the testimony of key witness Tony Gauci, who sold clothes later found in the wreckage. The defence is also seeking to recover a fax, revealing the date of an identity "photoshow" and evidence that Mr Gauci was interested in reward money. The appeal is due to begin on April 27 and could last up to a year. Ms Scott said: "A petitioner is entitled to recover those documents which are likely to be of material assistance of the proper presentation of those grounds of appeal." Mr Clancy said he urged the three appeal judges to refuse the request. He said: "There is an unrequited suspicion that the Crown is deliberately holding more documents that show an interest in rewards.
Tweeters as editors, sources, merchants?
Politics winner @justin_hart promoted a politician while Scott Zagarino @athletes4acure spoke out about prostate cancer when accepting the nonprofits prize. Martin Sargent @martinsargent, won the weird category and took a dig at the platform itself. "What's truly weird is that by receiving the $1,000 grant that accompanies this award, I'm 1,000 times more profitable than Twitter. Thank you." Another contendor for the weird prize, @Matman showed up at the party in an outfit to promote WellComeMat.com Then there was the mix of attendees, many of whom paid a $60 entrance fee, besides the reporters who gave the event pretty wide coverage. Nora Abousteit, who runs an open source sewing pattern web site burdaStyle.com, said she depends so much on Twitter for media updates that she changed her cellphone number and service after discovering twitter didn't work well on her old phone.

CombiMatrix Will Present Preliminary Data On Non-Invasive, Cancer
This study is focused on the evaluation of microRNA expression patterns in human serum for five types of human cancer, prostate, colon, ovarian, breast, and lung, using a pan-human microRNA, high density microarray. This microarray platform enables the simultaneous analysis of all human microRNAs by either fluorescent or electrochemical signals, and can be easily redesigned to include newly identified microRNAs. We show that sufficient microRNAs are present in one milliliter of serum to allow discrimination of normal donors and cancer patients without the need for amplification techniques. ABOUT COMBIMATRIX CORPORATION CombiMatrix Corporation is a diversified biotechnology business, through the development of proprietary technologies, products and services in the areas of drug development, genetic analysis, molecular diagnostics, nanotechnology research, defense and homeland security markets, as well as other potential markets where our products and services could be utilized.
CyberKnife For Prostate Cancer
"There's lots of important things in the pelvis and if you're missing the prostate, you're giving your rectum high does of radiation, which could cause rectal bleeding. If you're missing the prostate, you're giving high does of radiation to the bladder, which could cause bleeding from your bladder." Other radiation treatments take much longer. Internal seed therapy takes three months. External radiation lasts 40 days. The CyberKnife cuts treatment down to five days. "Prostate cancer is a cancer of 10 or 20 years, so we won't know how good the results are for that long, but we're not willing to wait because we have the best radiation technology in the world," Dr. Collins said. "I'm not willing to wait 20 years to give this opportunity to men." A PSA blood test can detect your risk of the disease.
On the Pulse - 30th January 2009
In advanced prostate cancer, it has been known for several years that radiotherapy plus endocrine therapy has benefits over radiotherapy alone. A study in the Lancet shows that the converse is also true: when 875 men from 47 Scandinavian centres were openly randomized to anti-androgens alone or anti-androgens plus radiotherapy, overall 10-year mortality was 39.8% in the former group, but only 29.6% in the latter. The effect was even stronger when only deaths from prostate cancer were considered. There was a small increase in adverse effects in the combined-therapy group, and perhaps a slightly greater decline in social function, but it seems safe to assume that most patients will think that this is a small price to pay for a reduction in mortality. Escitalopram in older people with anxiety disorder A placebo-controlled RCT in JAMA claims short-term benefit from the SSRI escitalopram in people aged over 60 with generalized anxiety disorder.
NATION IN BRIEF: Solis confirmed for Labor
For the first time, leading medical groups are advising millions of healthy men who are regularly screened for prostate cancer to consider taking a drug to prevent it. The advice stops short of saying men should take the drug finasteride, sold in generic form and as Proscar. It has not been widely prescribed as a cancer preventive, and may carry some risks. The new advice tells men to talk to their doctors and decide for themselves if the good outweighs the bad. The findings were published in two medical journals and discussed in a news briefing in connection with a cancer conference in Florida. They were written by doctors with American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Urological Association. CyberKnife For Prostate Cancer -- Research Summary
BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer will hit one in six men in his lifetime, according to the Prostate Cancer Foundation. This makes it the most common non-skin cancer in the United States. To survive the disease, it's important to catch it early. The American Cancer Society recommends men age 50 or older undergo both a PSA blood test, which checks levels of a protein produced by the prostate, and digital rectal exams every year. Men at high risk should start being tested at age 45. In addition to receiving annual screenings, men should watch out for symptoms that include the following: a need to urinate frequently, difficulty starting or holding back urination, blood in urine and frequent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips or upper thighs. TREATMENT: Treatment of prostate cancer differs depending on the stage the cancer is found in, but the traditional course involves surgery and radiation therapy.
Spaying/neutering good idea for pets
Neutering eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and reduces the risk of prostate disease. Your pets tendencies to roam or fight are also greatly decreased. This prevents the pets from getting lost, or even being hit by cars. Spaying/neutering does not cause your pet to become fat. You are the cause of that by overfeeding and not providing enough exercise. It has traditionally been quite common to wait until the pet was six months old before the surgical procedures was performed. With the advancement of veterinary medicine and over hundreds of scientific studies, it has been proven that paediatric spaying and neutering (s/n) is immensely successful.Mortality rate is lower than that of the old standard surgery of the six- to nine-month-old pet. The procedures are less traumatic for the younger pet.
