Laughing stock

"It's not like going to a therapy session during which you have to go through all your problems with a counsellor. Laughing is the most direct way to bring about health and happiness, and it is so simple that everyone can manage it," he says.

Yu began promoting the exercise in Hong Kong last year, holding talks and laughter sessions for medical workers, cancer patients, teachers and others in his spare time. Collaborating with NGOs, he also recently launched weekly laughter clubs for the elderly in Lai King and Ho Man Tin. "Laughing by myself is no fun. I teach laughter yoga for free so more people can practise regularly together in their neighbourhood," he says.

Each 30-minute session begins with some stretching, claps and chants of "ho-ho, ha-ha-ha" before launching into a series of playful laughter exercises.

Former Gap Band singer recovering from cancer

It was during a routine physical last September that a blood test turned up signs of prostate cancer. A biopsy and follow-up examination confirmed the diagnosis.

When Wilson heard his doctor utter the word cancer, "I just felt devastated," he said.

But Wilson also noticed that his doctor "had this little smile on his face" as he delivered the news. The reason, he said, was because his doctor told him: "We caught it early enough and we can knock it out."

Wilson is also spreading the message of early detection when he performs for U.S. troops serving in Iraq and Kuwait this month, and is working with the Prostate Cancer Foundation to increase awareness.

Pomegranates Australia to participate at Gulfood

A super rich Vitamin C source, research suggests that pomegranate juice may be effective against prostate cancer and osteoarthritis. The juice may also have antiviral and antibacterial effects against dental plaque, so granny was pretty savvy after all. Moving way back in time, the pomegranate tree is said to have flourished in the Garden of Eden and is very likely the 'apple' of Adam and Eve in Genesis. Native from Iran to the Himalayas in northern India, the pomegranate and has been cultivated since ancient times throughout the Mediterranean region of Asia, Africa and Europe. Now Richard Lorraine of Pomegranates Australia, Australia's largest producer of pomegranate fruit will be seeking opportunity for these jewels back in their birthplace at Gulfood. About the size of an apple, the fruit has a leathery, deep red to purplish red rind.

Andropause Is Not A Disease Says Doctor

He warned that testosterone replacement therapy for men could increase the chances of them suffering from cancer of the prostate and that both doctors who prescribed it and patients should be aware of this.

To date the most effective treatments for lower levels of erectile function in aging men are the impotence drugs Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.

'I Practise What I Preach ..i Had To Get Involved'

The Beatson Translational Research Centre is set to become the first laboratory in Scotland dedicated to turning scientific discoveries into cancer treatments.

It is Kirsty's job to manage the staff who organise the events programme.

She also recruits and trains volunteers who offer their assistance to the appeal. The £1K Challenge was launched recently by television presenter Shereen Nanjiani.

Farmer's wife Kirsty, who is based at Glasgow University, has signed up to give a regular gift under the appeal, which lets her see her donations build up from month to month like a mound of pebbles.

She said: "We are on the lookout for people to get involved in the campaign, whether it's taking part in the £1K Challenge or at one of our appeal events."

The Beatson Translational Research Centre will be built at Garscube Estate in Bearsden, Glasgow, and will focus on a range of cancers that are common in Scotland such as breast, prostate, ovarian, lung, throat, mouth, stomach and gastro intestinal.

Mechanically Assisted 3D Ultrasound Guided Prostate Biopsy System

There are currently limitations associated with the prostate biopsy procedure, which is the most commonly used method for a definitive diagnosis of prostate cancer. With the use of two-dimensional (2D) transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) for needle-guidance in this procedure, the physician has restricted anatomical reference points for guiding the needle to target sites. Further, any motion of the physician's hand during the procedure may cause the prostate to move or deform to a prohibitive extent. These variations make it difficult to establish a consistent reference frame for guiding a needle. We have developed a 3D navigation system for prostate biopsy, which addresses these shortcomings. This system is composed of a 3D US imaging subsystem and a passive mechanical arm to minimize prostate motion.

Cancer can't keep CAK basketball coach Darden off court

Dr. John Blake, a parent of one of his former players at Carter, suggested Darden undergo a biopsy for prostate cancer. The 62-year-old Darden had a 5.2 prostate-specific antigen rating, which measures a protein produced by the prostate.

The higher the rating, the higher the cancer probability.

And Darden had cancer.

"It was a punch in the gut," said CAK co-athletics director Richard Cowan. "This reminds us all, especially us guys, that we're all human. As we get older, things happen to us."

Darden had his prostate removed Dec. 22. Ten days later, he returned to coaching the basketball team - cancer free. The surgery sapped his strength, and the recovery time meant "a lot of bad daytime TV." But the end result was a re-dedication to basketball and to his relationships.
